These courses take place in both classroom and field settings in Prince George and our local mountains. Classroom topics include the formation and nature of avalanches, avalanche terrain, factors affecting snow stability, mountain snowpack, winter backcountry travel, assessing avalanche danger, and safety measures and self rescue/transceivers. In the field the student will learn terrain recognition, route finding, safe travel, group management, stability evaluation, hazard recognition, and small party self rescue.
